Why everyone needs a passion project

Today I am sharing with you my take on the topic of…. Passion Projects and why we all need one!

It’s not about the money, followers or other peoples’ opinions. Passion projects are to fulfil an overwhelming desire you have to do something. It can provide you with your ‘why’ if you think that’s something you’re struggling to identify (Google “Simon Sinek’s WHY” if you are unsure of this concept - it’s a real eye opener). Passion projects provide you with a job you love, be it paid or unpaid, if the job you have isn’t one you jump out of bed every morning excited about.

For me, I wanted a new challenge. I spend so much time reading other people’s blogs and in awe of their wisdom, knowledge and desire to share with the world, so I wanted my very own space to do exactly that. This blog is my passion project, my little space on the internet to share my thoughts and ideas with you. I’m not one to speak to a camera or take hundreds of photos of myself, so other platforms to share such as YouTube and Instagram wouldn’t have set my heart on fire. However, sitting at my laptop with a cup of tea on a rainy day with space to get all of my thoughts down on paper (or a screen) felt like exactly what I was craving.

For others, a passion project could be making something, helping people, learning a new skill or whatever it is that fills up their cup. A passion project shouldn’t be energy draining or feel like a chore, it should be the exact opposite and provide you with the space to fill your cup back up and spend time doing something you LOVE.

In the words of Simon Sinek ( I am a huge fan, hence mentioning him twice so far) “When I learned my why, I had a tremendous sense of calm come over me. My confidence grew and I had a sense that my life had more meaning than I thought it had before.”

Take some time to consider if you think you need to invest some time and energy in a passion project, to provide you with your why, present you with new challenges and an opportunity to fill your cup back up by doing something you LOVE.
