Let's talk.... Showing up as your future self

Hi everyone, welcome to another blog post.

Today I am sharing with you the topic of showing up as your future self.

Now this may sound a little strange, however bear with me as this is a really powerful practice.

I want you to visualise yourself in a couple of years time when you’ve achieved the goals you’ve set for yourself, whether they’re related to landing your dream job, living in your dream house, earning more money, being happier and healthier…. Or whatever your goal may be. To help you visualise your future self I want you to ask yourself, when I have achieved this goal, how does the ‘future me’ feel, look, act, talk and live her daily life?

What does her daily routine look like?

What does she wear?

How does she speak to herself and others?

Who does she spend her time with?

What habits does she have?

How confident does she feel?

What is her aura like?

What does she prioritise in her daily life?

So why is this important? By showing up like you’ve already achieved your goals, so many of the prerequisites for achieving your goals have been met. Let me explain.

As an example, if I set myself the goal of having 1,000 monthly visits to my blog I would be thinking about how I can show up as though I already have achieved this goal. What does Alice who runs a blog with 1,000 monthly visits look like?

  • She posts regularly

  • She is confident that people will read her blog and doesn’t doubt herself (because she’s believing she’s already got 1,000 monthly visits)

  • She prioritises making time in her day to write blog posts she thinks people will find interesting

  • She has an established brand for her blog which people are familiar with

  • She writes with energy and enthusiasm

  • She meets the deadlines she sets herself and the commitment she has made to her readers.

By showing up in this way, I have met all of the necessary prerequisites for achieving the goal of 1,000 monthly visits to my blog. I have put in the hard work, shifted my energy and taken all of the smaller steps I need to in order to achieve the goal. The 1,000 readers goal will take care of itself because I now have the right energy and priorities for this to happen.

If I didn’t show up as my future self who has a well supported blog with 1,000 monthly readers, I may be inclined to not post regularly, to neglect my blog and let it fall to the bottom of my priorities, I may believe nobody will read my blog so lose confidence. You can see how taking these actions would prevent me from achieving my goal. Quite the opposite of showing up as the future me.

Another example might be if you have a goal of getting a promotion at work. How does the YOU who’s got that promotion show up? Here are some ideas;

  • She prioritises personal and professional development and seeks opportunities to build knowledge and experience

  • She shows up as a confident employee who’s competent in her role

  • She shows commitment by being reliable at work and showing up on time

  • She spends time networking with senior colleagues to gain knowledge and exposure

  • She motivates and inspires other team members

  • She demonstrates through her actions that she is worthy and capable of a role with greater responsibility

Again, by showing up as this person above you have shifted your energy and your priorities to a place you need to be in order to get that promotion, so the hard work is done. The promotion will take care of itself because you have positioned yourself in a place where you need to be in order to secure that role - committed, knowledgeable, confident, professional and showing the universe you are ready for that promotion.

Where your attention goes, energy (and often success) flows! So focus on showing up like you have achieved your goals and you’ll be amazed at how quickly you tick your goals off your list!

I hope this has been insightful and has given you some actionable steps to achieve your goals and desires. Take some time to map out what the future you looks and feels like, this isn’t about completely changing who you are as a person but shifting into the energy you need to be in to achieve your goals. Trust me, it works!

Next week's post is all about developing a personal brand which is closely related to showing up as your future self, so please keep an eye open for that if you've enjoyed reading this one.

Thank you as always for reading.

Love Alice

X
