Hi everyone, welcome to another blog post.
★
Today I am sharing with you my take on the topic of limiting beliefs.
What are limiting beliefs you may be thinking? Let me explain. Limiting beliefs are underlying barriers which are preventing you from achieving your goals or realising your potential. A limiting belief is a reason or belief about something, which feels like the truth to you, but in reality it’s just a story you are telling yourself.
Limiting beliefs often relate to why you can’t have it all, well I am here to tell you that you can!
Examples of limiting beliefs can be absolutely anything, depending on what you are trying to achieve. Common limiting beliefs refer to not having enough of something such as money or time. Alternatively you may be telling yourself that you are not worthy of something, too old to take action or set yourself a particular goal, or you don’t have enough time for something. For example, when I was setting up this blog I told myself for months and months that nobody would read it. This isn’t reality - how could I conclude that nobody would read it when nobody even knew about it! I was setting myself up to fail.
When you are setting yourself goals, or simply an idea comes to your head, this is the point at which the limiting belief is the most likely to appear. So what can we do about it?
1. Unpack the limiting belief
The first step to take it to understand where this limiting belief has come from by asking yourself WHY over and over again. For example, if you are telling yourself you don’t have enough time to achieve something. Ask yourself WHY? This helps unpack the belief and usually gets to the route cause of this reason or story you’re telling yourself as to why you can’t achieve your goal. Is it because someone put the belief in your head, it is because you’ve not actually given yourself the space to achieve what you want to, is it because you’ve simply not made this thing your priority? You will most likely find that there is no evidence or truth behind the belief and run out of reasons to answer your ‘why’ question!
2. Rewrite the story you are telling yourself
Secondly, we need to rewrite the story we are telling ourselves and crucially write the new story based on facts rather than beliefs and you may have to do this several times as the original story may be ingrained in your mind and keep cropping up. You can physically write your new story down and the facts that this is built upon. The new story is integral to unlocking the potential to achieve your goal.

3. The third and most important step is to BELIEVE your new story! Remember your new story is based on facts and reality, therefore give yourself the permission to truly believe it. This may not happen overnight, you will most likely have to work extremely hard to help your mind believe the new story, but stick with it nevertheless.
We all have limiting beliefs but it’s how we act upon them that is important. Remember to unpack the belief, rewrite based on facts and believe your new story!
Thanks as always for reading.
